One of Ibiza’s most storied club names just made an unexpected move east. On June 6 and 7, Space Ibiza, the brand behind one of the White Isle’s most legendary superclubs, took over the boutique AYA Resort in Ayia Napa for a 48-hour electronic music weekend, its first-ever appearance on Cypriot soil.

For those who don’t know the name, Space isn’t just any club. From 1986 to 2016 it was one of Ibiza’s defining superclubs, five-time winner of Best Global Club at the International Dance Music Awards, famous for a Sunday terrace party where planes roared overhead on final approach into the airport next door. When it closed in 2016, its old site became Hï Ibiza, and Space itself went quiet for years before resurfacing in 2021 as something different: not a fixed club, but a touring brand. A bar near Café Mambo. Club nights in Riccione, Italy. And now, a curated weekend in Cyprus.

The Ayia Napa edition leaned intimate rather than massive, guests could book a room and live inside the takeover for the full weekend, or just show up for the day. The lineup (Arodes, Badbox, Echonomist, Jane Ryse, Mateo Vitale, Nick Jojo, Zamna Soundsystem) skewed underground, a clear signal Space is exporting its curated sound rather than chasing EDM headline names.

So is this the start of something permanent? Don’t bet on it yet. Space already has a second Cyprus date locked in for August 4, this time at Tsireio Stadium in Limassol, a different city entirely and a stadium setting rather than a boutique resort. No fixed venue, no permanent lease, nothing pointing to Space setting down roots on the island. What we’re watching instead looks like a brand testing multiple cities on a touring format, the same playbook it’s already run in Ibiza and Riccione.

Bottom line for anyone hoping Space opens a proper Cyprus home: nothing confirmed, nothing ruled out. Worth checking back after Limassol.
